about

UMO is something like my first coherent statement of musical interests.

Aside from its aesthetic coherence with the music, the unstated suggestion I privately intended for the album cover of a ClipArt locomotive was of an infinite caboose whose cars could be rearranged to make different patterns of squares, circles, and primary colors, like a child's toy train set. That's how I conceptualized the album's structure. Most listeners have made a different and much more sensible inference from the cover, that the album is actually some kind of portrait of trains, like a Nat Geo spread on some species or other.

Much of the album's sounds were originally gathered with the help of Tristan Gordon at the 2011 Lagrange County Engine Club Fair.
